Learn to Swim with University Recreation

Registrations close the Friday prior to the start of a new session at 3pm. Late registrations may be accepted by phone (239-590-7629) with a late registration fee of $10.

Price: $50* per session which includes six 25-minute lessons

Group Swim Lessons Level Information

Full level descriptions are on our online store. It is very important that you read each level and enroll your child in the level that best represents their ability. If you are unsure what level to register your child for you can request an in-person registration with a swim test. A Water Safety Instructor can be available throughout the week and can quickly run your child through a skills test before registering. Please call 239-590-7629 if you are interested in this.

Water Babies

For children 6 months to 3 years old. Parents/guardians are in the water with their child. Water Babies will work on skills that help prepare infants and young children to become comfortable in the water so that they build a foundation for learning how to swim when they move to the Preschool age group. This class will provide parents or guardians with information and techniques to create a safer aquatic experience for their child.

For children 3 to 5 years old. Preschool is broken down into three levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. A child must obtain certain skills before moving on or being entered into a more advanced level. Please consult our online store for the further breakdown of each Preschool level.

For children 6 to 13 years old. Participants are placed into 4 different levels based on skills with the purpose of teaching children to be safe in, on, and around water and to swim well. Participants must obtain certain skills before moving on or being entered into a more advanced level. Please consult our online store for further breakdown of each Learn to Swim level.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are scheduled one on one sessions with an instructor. Semi-private lessons are available for two swimmers looking for a more private lesson option but must be of similar abilities. All lessons are a half hour of personalized in-water instruction. Lessons are scheduled between you and your instructor based on your mutual availability and can occur at any time during our normal hours of operation but not during scheduled group lesson times due to instructor availability.

No private lessons are offered at this time.

FGCU Students can purchase a 30 minute lesson for $20 and split the lesson with a friend for no extra cost. FGCU Faculty & Staff can receive $5 off any lesson package.
