The Advising Transition Process

The process of the advising "transition" refers to a formal shift in who advised students that just starting on their academic journey from their second year of enrollment through graduation. Students transition from being advised by Exploratory Advising to being advised by advisors in the college that houses their major.

All of the required major-specific criteria must be met before you are eligible to transition to college advising. Eligibility is assessed at the conclusion of each semester. Students who transition to college advising are notified via Eagle Email. Please note that the failure to meet academic advising transition criteria/milestones in a timely matter may render you ineligible to continue in a particular major. In these cases, you will work with Exploratory Advising to identify an alternate major to complete at FGCU.

The transition to college advising occurs at the close of each semester (fall, spring, and summer). Each semester, we review the academic records of all enrolled students working with Exploratory Advising; those students who meet the academic criteria to transition to their college will receive an email from Exploratory Advising notifying them that they will be transitioning.

Transitioned students will then receive a follow-up email from their academic college with further information about how to complete the transition process.

Students who complete their first year of enrollment who have not decide on a major (Undeclared) or who have not met the academic criteria for their major will continue to work with Exploratory Advising to receive additional support and guidance in the process of selecting a major that is the best fit with their interests and abilities.

College Advising Transition Criteria

To fully prepare for the advising transition, you should review their major requirements in their audit through Degree Works. The degree audit will help you better understand the requirements for your program of study and begin to develop a set of possible courses to take for upcoming semesters.  You can also review the degree map for your major on the academic department's website.

If you don't transition to your college advisor, you will continue to be advised by Exploratory Advising.  We are here to help you get on track!

There is a possibility that you could work with Exploratory Advising again! If you are or become part of the Honors College, change to Undeclared/Undecided or Integrated Studies, or are not making timely progression in your major or meeting the requirements for your major, then you will work with Exploratory Advising again.
