History MA plan to graduation

Full-time/Part-time plans

The MA degree requires successful completion of 36 hours of coursework. Students choose a major and minor field from among three options: world history, US history, and public history. The program offers two tracks. The default track, which most students complete, is a non-thesis degree in which students take comprehensive exams during their final semester. The program also offers a thesis track for students planning to apply to PhD programs.

The MA in History offers educators and other professionals course schedules that accommodate evening study. Students can choose between full-time and part-time plans.

A full-time course load is nine credit hours per semester, or a total of three courses per semester. A realistic goal is to finish the program within two years.

Part-time students have up to five full years to complete all requirements for the degree.  Students who takes one class per semester, including summers, can complete the degree within four years.
