The Critical Theory Minor is an interdisciplinary 12-credit hour program focusing on reflective and critical engagement with contemporary culture and society drawing on methodologies in literary theory, history, political philosophy, and the social sciences.
Admission Requirements
- Students must meet with a college advisor to declare a minor and review the course requirements.
- A grade of C or higher is required for all courses in the minor.
- A minimum of 12 credit hours of the minor must be completed at FGCU.
- Students desiring certification of a minor and designation on their academic transcript must verify that the minor is displayed on their Graduation Application.
Program Requirements

Complete one of the following (3 hours):

- POT 3003 Political Theorists (3)
- POT 3075 Culture and Politics (3)
- POT 3303 Ideology & Propaganda (3)
- POT 4932 Sp Topics Politics/Humanities (3)
- SPC 3230 History of Rhetorical Theory (3)
- SPC 3721 Interracial/Intercultural Comm (3)
Complete two of the following (6 hours):
- PHH 3931 ST History of Philosophy (3)
- PHI 3223 Philosophy Human Communication (3)
- PHH 3930 Special Topics in Philosophy (3)
- PHP 3786 Existentialism (3)
- PHM 4123 Feminist Philosophy (3)
- PHM 3101 Philosophy of Liberation (3)
Complete two additional electives (6 hours) from any of the above listed courses.
