To support faculty with new Canvas initiatives starting in Spring 2025 and into Fall 2025, Digital Learning is offering drop-in sessions and appointments during December and January, in addition to our regular Canvas and course design support.
Spring 2025
The Provost has asked faculty to utilize Canvas to grade at least one assignment within the first three weeks, and another within the first seven weeks (before the withdrawal date, Monday, March 17, 2025) in order that we can begin piloting the data flow from Canvas into student success support services. Faculty who are already fully utilizing Canvas will not need to make any changes as their grades have already historically flowed into our institutional research student support data tables (Tableau).
Please note that these grade entries are separate from the Verification of Attendance assignment.
For assistance with implementing these Canvas essentials Digital Learning offers the following support:
- Drop-in Sessions: Take advantage of our in-person and virtual Microsoft Teams drop-in sessions. View the calendar of drop-in hours.
- Individual Sessions: If you are familiar with Canvas and would like assistance with a specific question about Canvas or your course design, schedule a personalized, one-on-one session with a member of the Digital Learning team.
- Tutorials and Guides: Visit our online Canvas support resources.
Fall 2025
Starting Fall 2025, the Provost expects all courses include in Canvas their syllabus, course schedule, and grading.
If you are unfamiliar with setting up these essentials in Canvas, please enroll in the Canvas Introduction Workshop.
If you are familiar with Canvas and would like assistance with a specific question about Canvas or your course design, schedule a personalized, one-on-one session with a member of the Digital Learning team.
For online courses, the Provost's Council approved the FGCU quality standards for online education for implementation beginning Fall 2025. These standards ensure FGCU meets national, state, and accreditation standards while supporting a foundation that provides a rich, engaging, and effective learning environment for all students at FGCU.
