In this meeting, a Career Advisor will discuss different majors and careers with you that align with your interests, personality, skills, and values. The advisor won’t tell you what job/major is best for you, but they will give you more information and tools to help you decide on your own. Most students leave one of these appointments with some identified areas to research and explore more deeply.

Pre-Meeting Preparation: Complete the MyPlan assessments

Looking for employment at any level can be a time-consuming process. Before you being applying, you need to have an idea of what you are looking for, which means you must know yourself. From there, you’ll need to craft a search strategy using a variety of methods such as networking, job boards, and prospecting. Our Career Advisors are available to help coach you through each step of the process and help you find your dream position.

Your career documents are your first chance to make a good impression on a potential employer or graduate school, so it’s important to make them look flawless. In these advising sessions, we’ll help you breakdown your story and articulate it appropriately through your documents while also providing you with industry-specific best practices.

Pre-Meeting Preparation: Create a draft of your documents prior to the meeting. If you don’t know where to start, meet with a Peer Career Advisor first to cover the basic formatting principles.

Before you set foot in an interview room, you should be knowledgeable about the position, the organization, and the industry and feel confident in your ability to sell yourself to the employer. To help you in that preparation, we can conduct a practice interview session with you and coach you through answering some of the most common interview scenarios.

The specialized knowledge and skills required for some positions can only be obtained through advanced academic study. If you’re not sure whether you need graduate school or not, talking to us about your goals is a great first step. From there, we can help demystify the process of researching programs, applying to schools, and drafting your personal statement.

Pre-Meeting Preparation: Varies, but you should come prepared to discuss the steps you have already taken to research or apply to specific programs. If you have an identified program, then it is helpful to bring along information on the program-specific admission and application requirements.
