The Police Department in conjunction with other university departments or local law enforcement agencies, issue campus Timely Warnings promptly when an incident is considered a serious or continuing threat to students or employees. A Timely Warning is required by Clery Act for the community to be alerted to certain crimes in a timely manner that will aid in prevention of similar crimes. The Timely Warning not only to warn, but can include tips and information to promote safety and aid in prevention. A Timely Warning will utilize methods to reach the entire community such as the FGCU Alert system (text/social media) and e-mail. These Timely Warnings will be posted on the department website at http://www.fgcu.edu/upd/ and at other locations around campus to reach the impacted population, and otherwise distributed as needed via e-mail and text messaging through the FGCU Alert system.

A Crime Alert sent by UPD, is an emergency or nonemergency e-mail sent to inform the campus of detail information of an incident(s) and providing information and prevention tips and requesting assistance in solving a crime.

University alerts will be handled through RAVE Alert which will be distributed through text messages, email, social media and other platforms.

The University Police, FGCU Emergency Management, in conjunction with campus leadership, continues to track the tropics. Weather updates will be sent by email and appear on official, FGCU-branded social media pages and the Emergency Management website.

FGCU Emergency Operations Center: None

Levels of Activation: There are three levels of activation for the Emergency Operations Center (EOC)—none, limited, and full.

1. None—There is no need for the EOC to be activated because all aspects of the incident can be handled by the on-scene Incident Command Post and/or a Department Operations Center.

2. Limited (Partial)—For small incidents that impact large areas or complex incidents within a small area that impact a large number of agencies and the public (e.g., hazardous materials incident, terrorist attack, etc.), the Incident Commander may elect to call in a limited number of EOC staff. The specific functions/positions activated are based on incident demands, with primary consideration being given to: Incident Commander, Public Information Officer (PIO), Operations Chief, Logistics Chief, Emergency Manager, Safety, Planning Chief, Message Center Manager.

3. Full—For larger incidents, the entire EOC team is called in for a full activation of the EOC. After activation of the EOC and initial briefing of the staff, the Incident Commander may reduce the level of staffing needed to support response activities.
