running on any US-based mobile carrier network.
Guardian Eagle is a state-of-the-art safety app that allows you to turn your cell
phone into a safety device. FGCU Police can also utilize the Guardian Eagle App to
communicate with users during an emergency and quickly provide important information.
Guardian Eagle allows you to select Guardians, such as friends and family members, to check-in on you when you are alone or in
an unfamiliar place; set-up a Safety Timer with a location and expected arrival time. If you don’t arrive on time your Guardians
are notified to check in on you. You can also send anonymous tips using text and images about suspicious activity to FGCU Police; use an Emergency Call Button to connect with FGCU Police. Your GPS location is provided so emergency personnel
can reach you faster. Users can set up a Safety Profile and add important information emergency responders need to know – things like medical
conditions, allergies, disabilities, and more
Does Guardian Eagle require users to have a certain kind of phone?
No. The basic profile features of Guardian Eagle work on any mobile phone running
on any US-based mobile carrier network that allows app downloads. Location information
and other features are carrier and phone dependent.
Is the Guardian Eagle app free and how do I install it?
Yes. Visit the Apple App Store or Google Play store and search for “Rave Guardian”. Download and install Rave Guardian on your mobile
device. Enable location and notification settings. Follow registration procedure by
providing your cell phone number and university email address. Tap the picture icon
in the top left corner of the app to provide additional information, such as emergency
contacts, vehicle descriptions and medical information.
Yes. Your profile data is stored privately and securely within Rave Mobile Safety’s
databases. FGCU Police can only view your profile when your timer expires or you
dial 9-1-1.
Rave Guardian can allow FGCU Police to locate your approximate location when your
timer expires or you place a 9-1-1 call. However, it cannot be used to locate you
without your knowledge. Your profile and location (if you have enabled the location
service) are only available to when your timer expires or you call 9-1-1.
How can I tell if my mobile phone can provide its location to Guardian Eagle?
Guardian Eagle can locate most devices on the AT&T, Sprint T-Mobile, and Verizon
networks. Once you have registered for Guardian Eagle, you will be presented with
information about location services on your mobile carrier.
What if my carrier or mobile phone cannot provide Guardian Eagle with location information?
Can I still use the app?
Yes. Guardian Eagle works with any mobile phone, on practically any carrier. If Guardian
Eagle cannot determine your phone’s location because the phone does not support that
function you can still use the system. FGCU Police will receive all other profile
information when you use Guardian Eagle.
When will FGCU Police be notified my timer expired?
FGCU Police is notified of your timer expiring ONLY if you have selected FGCU Police
as your guardian, as either the primary guardian or secondary guardian.
Can my Guardians receive the same text alerts as I do?
Yes, if you go into your profile and add your Guardian's phone numbers and/or email
addresses as a second or third phone or email address. They will receive the same
alerts as you do and be kept up to date if an incident arises on campus.
The features of the Guardian Eagle app will work off-campus; however, if you have
an emergency at an off-campus location you should dial 9-1-1. The tip feature is
for campus locations only.
The more information you provide, the more FGCU Police knows if they need to assist
you in an emergency. At a minimum, your address (home and school), your physical description
and a recent photo are great places to start. If you have a particular health issue
or other personal safety concern, you can include that information as well. You determine
the information to include in your profile.
