Master of Health Science

The interdisciplinary Master of Science in Health Science program is designed to provide advanced opportunities for baccalaureate graduates in the health care field.

The Master of Science (M.S.) in Health Science program prepares graduates to serve as health care leaders in a variety of leadership and administrative roles within the diverse and dynamic health delivery system. Graduates acquire skills and expertise in planning, developing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating innovative and quality health care services.

Coursework for this degree program is offered by distance learning. Total program length is 45 credit hours. As a distance learning program, out-of-state students (non-Florida residents) will be eligible for a tuition waiver that will bring the tuition to the equivalence of in-state students (Florida residents).

The flexibility of the distance-learning program offers baccalaureate degree graduates the opportunity to acquire expertise and specialization in line with their interest, needs and career applications in health services administration.

Students learn practical managerial and organizational knowledge and skills to address financial and economic issues, balance human resources needs, utilize the health information data and technology, and streamline the health care delivery process and system to improve its quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness. The curriculum will prepare students to become health care leaders in a variety of leadership and administrative roles within the diverse and dynamic health delivery system.

Applicants must submit an application online per the individual program’s instructions below. Program Admission Requirements 2023-2024

Applications are reviewed by the program's admissions committee. The committee takes a holistic approach to reviewing applications and considers all application materials in the decision.
1. Submit a FGCU graduate application and satisfy all applicable university requirements.
2. Submit official transcripts from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning to provide verification of a baccalaureate degree or equivalent.
3. TOEFL or IELTS scores that meet minimum university admission requirements are required from applicants who have earned their bachelor's degree outside the United States in a country where English is not the official language. This requirement is not limited to international students.
4. A grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 semester hours attempted in the undergraduate degree. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
5. Professional resume showing any healthcare, management, or relevant experience. While specific experience is not required, work and/or volunteer experience is considered.
6. Submission of a personal statement of approximately 2 pages describing your professional goals and reasons for pursuing the MS in Health Science degree, any experience that you have that would prepare you for this program, and your career goals after completing the program.
7. Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in a virtual interview. The interview is required for admission to the program.

Program Progression and Additional Graduation Requirements
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Earn a grade of C or better in each course. A grade of C minus (C-) is considered less than a C. Only one grade of C is allowed.
- Refer to the Health Science Student Guidebook for further information on progression standards.
- Submit an application for graduation by semester deadline listed in the FGCU Academic Calendar.
- Earn a minimum of 45 credits with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Students must register for a minimum of one credit during the semester in which they apply for graduation.
- Earn more than 50% of the credits toward the degree through FGCU.
