Membership Eligibility Requirement

In order to be considered eligible for membership in a fraternity at FGCU, students must:

• Have a high school diploma
• Meet the GPA/credit hour requirement 
• Be degree matriculating students at FGCU
• Complete the Hazing Prevention: It’s Everyone’s Responsibility Module 
  • (Log in Instructions - Username: EagleMail account (without the @eagle.fgcu.edu) and Password: Eagle Mail password)
• Complete the Greeking Responsibly Online Module 

The fraternities within the Interfraternity Council pride themselves in producing successful leaders and men who value scholarship, campus leadership and involvement, brotherhood, service and philanthropy, and leadership development. 

Recruitment Information 

All men interested in participating in the IFC recruitment process, must complete the following steps:

• STEP 1: Confirm that you have at least a 2.5 high school GPA or a 2.5 cumulative college GPA if you have at least 12 earned college credits (you will not be permitted to participate if you do not - no exceptions will be given). A grade check will be conducted by FSL staff members upon registering.
• STEP 2: Complete the Hazing Prevention: It’s Everyone’s Responsibility Module. 
• STEP 3: Complete the Greeking Responsibly Online Module.
• STEP 4: Register for IFC Recruitment when the registration link opens

Failure to complete any of these steps will result in your ineligibility to participate in the recruitment process!

How to Join

Membership selection in Latin fraternities and historically Black Greek lettered fraternities are individual processes that are different within each organization. The fraternities within the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) and the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) choose the time when they will select new members. This process, known as membership intake, generally begins with an interest meeting followed by a period of new membership education. The membership process culminates with initiation and a new member presentation show/performance in which the organization's new members are revealed to the community.

Joining a fraternity in the MGC or NPHC is a lifelong commitment to a far-reaching national organization that is both exciting and rewarding. The brotherhood and dedication to community service that you will share as a member of MGC and NPHC fraternities is unlike any other.

Here are a few tips to get you started:

• Learn the Basics: Research the various organizations within the MGC and NPHC. Look for a fraternity that encompasses the values, goals and objectives that are most fitting with your own. Visit their national and local websites and look for any publications that discuss the origin and basic tenants of the organization.
• Fill out the Council Interest Forms: MGC and NPHC both have interest forms and if you want members of the councils to reach out to you to provide more information, we highly recommend filling out the interest form!

• Attend Events: Look for flyers, social media invitations and other publicity about programs and functions that will be hosted by the fraternities that you are interested in. Events are most frequently advertised on the Instagram and other social media platforms. Your attendance can not only show your interest in the organization, but also give you a better understanding of their programs and make connections with the members.
• Say Hello: Once you have identified the fraternity that you are interested in joining, do not be afraid to introduce yourself. Choosing the fraternity that you would like to join is a serious decision, and one that can be greatly impacted by your interactions and conversations with the members.
• Be Prepared: Chapters seek new members that have an understanding, genuine appreciation and respect for the organization.  Excellent candidates for membership are those that have researched its history, exemplify its standards and values, have leadership and community service experience, and can be a positive addition to the chapter. Take a moment to identify the personal experiences, accomplishments and beliefs that you can bring to the chapter as a new member.
• Attend an Informational: A fraternity's informational/interest meeting is where the criteria for membership are explained. Informational meetings may be publicized via flyers or by a direct invitation from the chapter.
