Engaging in Research

An attribute designating courses in which undergraduate students actively engage in elements of the research process through projects and assignments that make an intellectual or creative contribution to the discipline or practice. RSD courses can focus on the student’s individual research project, embed elements of the faculty’s research project, or embed a community-engaged research project.

1. To search for classes with the RSD attribute, go to the Gulfline Schedule Search.
2. Select the appropriate term.
3. Make sure you select "RSD" in the Course Attribute section.
4. Filter any other items that apply.
5. Click the Submit button

Applications for the WiSER Research Assistant program are currently open for the 2024/25 academic year in the spring semester.

Fostering FGCU’s culture of integrating student and faculty scholarship, the WiSER Research Assistant Program enables faculty to hire undergraduate research assistants (priority given to federal work study students) and graduate research assistants (restrictions apply) for 10 hours per week between 19 August 2024 and 26 April 2025.

WiSER students contribute to faculty scholarship in any discipline, participating in activities such as, but not limited to: literature review; data collection; source analysis; art work, bench and field experiments, theatre production, music performance; writing, editing, and manuscript formatting. (Please note, evidence of compliance approval—e.g., IRB—will be needed if applicable). Faculty mentor students in the process of scholarly inquiry as they prepare a project for dissemination. Students benefit from this program by developing transferable skills important for both graduate school and employment and techniques for overcoming adversity and setbacks. Additionally, students participate in professional development seminars. Faculty applying to the WiSER Eagle Research Assistant program must comply with all university procedures. The application deadline is 9 September with priority given to applications received by 5 August.
