National Professional Associations
These national associations provide a gateway into the counseling profession, specialty/setting specific developments, advocacy, and advances. Many students chose to join more than one professional organizations at the local, state and national level to become more familiar with the professions, network, access professional development and journals/newsletter, participation in conventions and workshops, discounts on professional materials and access to liability insurance coverage. Most organizations are especially welcoming to student members and provide special discounts and opportunities for pre-professional counselors.
As part of becoming a professional our program requires that students join one of the three national associations. Each offers significantly reduced membership prices with all of the benefits of professional membership. This includes the provision of liability insurance which is required of all students prior to beginning field experiences (Practicum.)
