After having banned theater from much of Europe for centuries, the Christian church brought it back during the Middle Ages in the form of popular street entertainment. Actors, working with local trade guilds, produced bible stories on wagons and presented them to an audience desperate for a distraction from the various threats of living in a newly forming urban society. Some of the plays were funny, some frightening, but all were fully secular and very much a part of the human condition. Barry Cavin adapts and directs a contemporary retelling of three ancient cycle plays for our 2019/20 season in a production that promises to capture the spirit and fun of the original work while making the event relevant and interesting to today’s audiences.

As he seeks to carve out a future with his intended bride, must he let go of everything that has made him who he is?
