First Year Experience

Eagles Excel in Academic Research is a program designed for first year students who want to dive into research initiatives at the start of their collegiate career. In collaboration with Sponsored Research & Scholarly Innovation, First Year Experience & Retention Programs will provide students with a forum through which they will learn about scholarly research, and explore research opportunities that are occurring on campus, while also getting connected to faculty and students who lead these projects.

Eagles Excel in Biology is a program available to all incoming freshmen science majors that will be required to complete General Biology I and/or General Biology II to complete their program. These introductory courses are considered extremely challenging and can lead to a difficult start in college. The program has proven to increase student performance throughout their time at FGCU and increases the likelihood of graduating in four years. It is a great way to meet other science majors that will likely be in some of your classes with you. 

What to expect: 

Eagles Excel in Business was designed for first year students who want to immerse themselves in the Lutgert College of Business before their first semester even begins. Students will interact with faculty from each of the majors within this college, investigate differences between these majors and the career paths they lead to, while also learning about how they can be successful business students

Eagles Excel in Chemistry was designed for students who will be required to take Chemistry. This program will assist students by getting a head start on the topic, learning more about the class, and meeting staff and students before the course even begins.

Eagles Excel in College Algebra is a program made for first year students who need a little boost in their math skills. By attending this program, students will experience practice lectures, notes, homework and a mock exam to prepare for the real deal. Incentives will be included for those who participate.

Eagles Excel in Economics offered by the Department of Economics & Finance is available to all students who are enrolled in ECO 2013: Principles of Macroeconomics. Principles of Macroeconomics is one of the first business classes that students take, and it can be challenging. Participation in the program will increase your likelihood of being successful in ECO 2013 and graduating from FGCU in four years. Economics Boot Camp is also great way to meet other business majors.

What to expect: 

Eagles Excel in Education is designed for first year students who want to immerse themselves in the College of Education (COE) before their first semester even begins. Students will get connected to faculty in the COE and learn what it takes to become a future educator. The program will provide support to students through fun, engaging, and hands-on learning experiences both on-campus and on-site at a local school.

Eagles Excel in Engineering & Construction Management is designed for first year students who want to immerse themselves in the U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering (WCE) before their first semester even begins. Students will get connected to faculty in the WCE and learn what it takes to excel in their courses. The program will provide support to students through fun, engaging, and hands-on learning experience while simultaneously helping them to understand what it means to be a successful student studying to become a future engineer or construction manager.

Eagles Excel in Intermediate Algebra is a program designed for first year students to help them increase their math skills and promote success within the first year. We understand math can be a difficult concept and want to provide support. This program provides practice skills and tips to start the semester off strong.

Eagles Excel in Pre-Med & Pre-Health was designed for first year students who want to get a head start of having pre-med mentorship before their first semester even begins. Students will get connected to faculty in various health-related programs, learn what it takes to excel in their science courses, and become a strong candidate for graduate programs in the medical field. The program will provide support to students through fun, engaging, and hands-on learning experiences on campus and will connect them to faculty who run research labs in which students can get involved.
