Academic Research

The Scholarly Research Immersive Experience is a program designed for FTIC students who want to dive into research initiatives at the start of their collegiate career. In collaboration with Sponsored Research & Scholarly Innovation, First Year Experience & Retention Programs will provide students with a forum through which they will learn about scholarly research, and explore research opportunities that are occurring on campus, while also getting connected to faculty and students who lead these projects.

The Business Immersive Experience was designed for FTIC students who want to immerse themselves in the Lutgert College of Business before their first semester even begins. Students will interact with faculty from each of the majors within this college, investigate differences between these majors and the career paths they lead to, while also learning about how they can be successful business students

The Education Immersive Experience is designed for FTIC students who want to immerse themselves in the College of Education (COE) before their first semester even begins. Students will get connected to faculty in the COE and learn what it takes to become a future educator. The program will provide support to students through fun, engaging, and hands-on learning experiences both on-campus and on-site at a local school.

Engineering & Construction Management

The Engineering & Construction Management Immersive Experience is designed for FTIC students who want to immerse themselves in the U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering (WCE) before their first semester even begins. Students will get connected to faculty in the WCE and learn what it takes to excel in their courses. The program will provide support to students through fun, engaging, and hands-on learning experience while simultaneously helping them to understand what it means to be a successful student studying to become a future engineer or construction manager.

Pre-Med

The Pre-Med Immersive Experience was designed for FTIC students who want to get a head start of having pre-med mentorship before their first semester even begins. Students will get connected to faculty in various health-related programs, learn what it takes to excel in their science courses, and become a strong candidate for graduate programs in the medical field. The program will provide support to students through fun, engaging, and hands-on learning experiences on campus and will connect them to faculty who run research labs in which students can get involved.

Resort and Hospitality Management

The Resort & Hospitality Management (RHM) Immersive Experience is a program designed for FTIC students who want to orient themselves to the RHM program upon their arrival on campus. In collaboration with the RHM program, First Year Experience & Retention Programs will provide students with a forum through which they will learn about the RHM program, and explore learning opportunities that are occurring both on- and off-campus, while also getting connected to faculty, staff and students in the program. REQUIRED FOR DECLARED RHM MAJORS.

Sustainability

The Sustainable Future Immersive Experience is designed for FTIC students who want to immerse themselves in sustainable values of Florida Gulf Coast University before their first semester even begins. Students will interact with faculty from University Colloquium, the University’s upper-level introductory sustainability course, and learn how they can connect with sustainability initiatives on campus. The program will include a field trip with Campus Naturalists to explore the Campus Nature Trails and the sustainable initiatives across campus.

The cost of attendance for each program is $20 (non-refundable), but students who are unable to pay the cost of attendance are able to request a fee waiver by emailing fye@fgcu.edu.
