Social work practice with Latinos/as | Child Abuse and Neglect

Dr. Negroni joined academia in 1993 after working as clinical social worker and supervising clinical social worker for 13 years. She has been a social work educator in different schools of social work in Puerto Rico, Massachusetts and Connecticut. For several years she served as Director of the University of Connecticut School of Social Work’s Puerto Rican and Latino Studies Project (PRLSP). Dr. Negroni is a member of the Editorial Board and Reviewer for the Journal of Ethnic and Cultural Diversity in Social Work and also does reviews for Advances in Social Work Practice, the Journal on Child Abuse and Neglect and the Journal on Social Work Education. In the past she has been a Publication Consultant for Columbia University Press and Allyn and Bacon Publishing Company. She is an active member of the following professional organizations: Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), Association of Latina and Latino Social Work Educators (ALLSWE), National Association of Social Workers (NASW- Florida Chapter), International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) and the International Association for Social Work with Groups (IASWG).
Recently Dr. Negroni was appointed as a faculty affiliate of the newly developed FGCU Center for Critical Race and Ethnic Studies (CCRES) and Chair of the CCRES Community Engagement Committee.

Clinical Experiences:

  • Dr. Negroni has experience being a clinical supervising social worker in an outpatient mental health program in MA and clinical social worker in a family services agency in Puerto Rico. She has also practiced clinical work with abused and neglected children and their families and with couples and families.
