Dr. Frederick graduated with her Ph.D. in Environmental Toxicology with a focus in
immunology in 2004 from Clemson University and went on to complete her first post
doc at the National Institute of Health in toll like receptor signaling and septic
shock. She then went on to complete a second post doc at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville,
FL focusing on non-small cell lung cancer. She has taught Genetics and Immunology
at Wofford College in South Carolina. then spend the next 11 years as an Assistant
Professor of Instruction at the University of Texas at Arlington teaching Molecular
and Cell Biology, Genetics, Infectious Diseases, Anatomy & Physiology and Microbiology.
She moved to Naples in 2019 and taught Genetics and Microbiology at Hodges University
and then moved forward to teach General Biology 1 here at FGCU in the fall 2021 semester.
Currently Dr. Frederick is a visiting professor in the Biology Department teaching
Cell Biology and Genetics since the spring of 2022.

Research and Teaching Interests
Toggle Research and Teaching InterestsI am passionate about science and my enthusiasm shines through when I teach. I think
it is important to educate students on the basic facts and concepts while also stimulating
them to think and to question. As a scientist my favorite part of learning is asking
questions and I encourage this in my classes. I also think students need to see the
relevance in what they are learning. As adults they will face many issues they need
to make informed decisions about, such as stem cell research, gene therapy, global
warming, etc. A strong scientific background is an important asset for young adults
who will one day be facing these concerns.
