Jose, Felix (Ph.D.)
Felix Jose is an Associate Professor of Marine Science and Program Coordinator for Undergraduate Marine Science program at Florida Gulf Coast University. He got his Masters and Ph.D in Physical Oceanography from Cochin University of Science & Technology, India. His doctoral research was funded through a national eligibility test administered by the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR). He got Post-Doc experience from three institutions; Nansen Centre, India; University of Azores, Horta, Portugal; Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. He joined FGCU Marine Science faculty in Fall 2011. He authored publications on coastal hydrodynamics, sediment transport, circulation modeling, wave and storm surge from hurricanes and tropical storms etc. He has taught courses in oceanography, physical oceanography, coastal remote sensing, earth science and has mentored undergraduate and graduate students at LSU and FGCU. Jose has acquired very good research experience after working for various projects funded through federal, state and local agencies on topics pertaining to coastal erosion, estuarine circulation, hurricane induced storm surge and barrier island erosion/overwash along Louisiana and Florida coasts. Jose has collaborated with researchers from Florida and around the world. He was also awarded a summer faculty scholarship to work at Naval Research lab, Stennis Space Center. Recently he has been included in the Fulbright specialist roster as a coastal ocean modeler.
