Farshad Aminian-Tankei is a native of Iran whose primary interest is an art form of cinema with emphasis on humanism and Marxist philosophy. He is interested in film and media as form of social, cultural, and political means in the age of globalization.

His research is primarily concentrating in film production and as one of the contributors to the groundbreaking book in the field of cinema studies The Historical Dictionary of Middle Eastern Cinema. His interest in filmmaking remains within the realm of documentary, poetic experimental, narrative and political collage. His current project is a documentary on a long-term dialysis patient in Japan.
He has taught both film studies and production courses at Florida Gulf Coast University, Southern Illinois University Carbondale and Ithaca College, NY.
