CV/Resume

David Stormer is an Assistant Professor of Fisheries Ecology in the Marine and Earth Science Department at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). He is a fisheries scientist with interests in quantifying the interactive effects of ecological processes and the human dimension on populations of marine, estuarine and freshwater fishes, and using this information to guide management of both species and aquatic ecosystems in the face of a changing climate and habitat alteration. David takes a holistic and integrative research approach in targeting the interfaces between fisheries biology, ecology, conservation and management to fill the voids arising from disciplinary boundaries. Throughout his academic and professional career, David has been fortunate to conduct research and manage fisheries resources in a variety of ecosystems across North America; from lakes and reservoirs to riverine systems through the estuarine ecotone to the coastal and open ocean environment. David joined FGCU in 2023 and is currently studying fish utilization of a recently deployed artificial reef complex in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, invasive species ecology in southwest Florida, coastal shark population dynamics and the integration of local angler ecological knowledge into adaptive fisheries management.
