Online Teaching Certificate

The FGCU Online Teaching Certificate prepares FGCU faculty to teach and improve online courses using the FGCU Department of Digital Learning pillars of quality in online learning— Technology, Course Design, and Teaching.

FGCU faculty who earn the FGCU Online Teaching Certificate will receive a certificate and letter to validate their successful completion of the Online Teaching Certificate. These may be used for promotion purposes. Faculty may also be featured on the Department of Digital Learning website, blog, and social media platforms.

Certificate Requirements

FGCU faculty participating in the Online Teaching Certificate will complete a variety of activities including: Workshops, Academies, Online Course Design Review, and an Online Teaching Self-Review. There is no time limit for completing the Online Teaching Certificate. Any requirements completed prior to enrollment will be accepted toward the certificate.

Canvas Online Workshop
The Introduction to Canvas Online Workshop is a self-paced asynchronous workshop where you will explore and master the fundamentals of Canvas: navigation, notifications, course customization, syllabi, calendar and course events, importing content, adding colleagues and course publishing; access Canvas guides and help, announcements, discussions, quizzes, content organization, rubrics and grading.

Canvas Intermediate Workshop
Intermediate Canvas Online Workshop is a self-paced asynchronous course for instructors who are experienced Canvas users. Participants will learn how to successfully use intermediate and advanced Canvas features for remote, on-campus, and online instruction. Helpful tips and tricks will be included, as well as pedagogical examples where applicable.

- Course Design with an FGCU Instructional Designer
  Contact your department's assigned Instructional Designer for more information.
- Course Design Academy
  The Course Design Academy (CDA) explores learner-centered design principles, discuss ideas in small learning teams, and apply principles/concepts to courses and syllabi. You will exit with a new and improved fall course and tools to implement strategies and activities. Over the three days, we will continue to explore ways to “backward” design from what we want our students
FGCU Internal Quality Matters (QM) Online Course Design Review
Course design and course delivery must be examined separately. Faculty and instructional designers will work together to review and improve online course design. Request a review.

Online Learning Academy I
The Online Learning Academy (OLA) seeks to meet faculty where they are in their experience and understanding of online instruction. From these individual starting points, participants will strengthen their skills as they engage in active learning experiences in a supportive learning community.
