1. Confirm eligibility. Already applied and been accepted to FGCU as either an undergraduate, graduate degree, graduate certificate, or graduate Postbaccalaureate non-degree seeking student.
2. Register for the course. Click “register” below the badge name on the FGCU site.
3. Showcase mastery of competencies through passing the required badge assessments (separate from the course grade) and earn a badge (after completing the course).

FGCU Badges include three areas of focus to micro-credentials: Industry-Specific, Transferable Skills, and Continuing Education & Skills Academy. Please click on the corresponding badge on the main page for more information.

FGCU students are currently earning digital badges in several pilot programs, and a campus-wide badging initiative will begin in Fall 2022.

FGCU works with industry partners to identify skills in demand in today’s workforce and then offers digital badges aligned with these skills. Earning digital badges helps students develop these valuable skills both in and outside of the classroom. Digital badges help students demonstrate what they can do. They give students a competitive advantage and are recognized by employers. 

They differ from traditional degrees because they are more narrowly focused on specific workforce-related skills and are offered in shorter or more flexible timespans. Digital badge metadata demonstrates earned competencies in ways a degree program typically does not.

Engage in a series of curricular and extra-curricular activities that develop a specific skill. Demonstrate your competency in a skill through a non-credit bearing assessment, earn the digital badge. Degree-seeking FGCU students are not charged any additional fees to earn Industry-Specific and Transferable Skills digital badges or digital badges that are connected to credit-bearing courses. These are the majority of all digital badges offered by FGCU. Industry-Specific digital badge fees are linked to tuition fees for credit-bearing courses. Continuing Education & Skills Academy badges have low-cost fees.

The digital badges you earn can be shared through social media, resumes, job sites, email, or html.

The time it takes to earn an FGCU digital badge will vary according to the badge. Students should review the badge’s earning requirement for each badge to determine the time commitment. Click on individual badge for more information.

FGCU digital badges are hosted by Badgr. Badgr is a leading, secure platform for earning, sharing, and displaying digital badges. FGCU digital badges are awarded to the @fgcu.edu or @eagle.fgcu.edu email address used when you create your Badgr account. Each earned badge has a unique URL and cannot be copied. Badges issued and received on Badgr.com are fully compliant with the Open Badges infrastructure, a universal framework for badges.
