The RHM staff and directors are always searching for information from those in the day-to-day business of hospitality so that they can pass on relevant information that will benefit the students.

Meet DaleDale Moeller entered FGCU without a firm grasp on his future. He didn’t have a predilection for any specific major or career.

The School of Resort & Hospitality Management (RHM) changed everything for him. After his first internship — at Highland Woods Golf and Country Club — he knew he was in the right place. His internship later at The Club at Barefoot Beach was icing on the cake.

“The internship program through FGCU is the essential learning curve for each student in the RHM program,” Dale says. “It is these experiences that will tell you if this is a career for you or not.

“My internship opportunities put me right into the day-to-day operations of hospitality. Each day presented itself a new learning experience, whether good or bad. I was able to advance my customer-service levels and problem-solving skills very quickly — which in this field are two skill sets you must have.”

After graduating from FGCU in 2007, Dale began a career with The Club at Barefoot Beach as an assistant manager. He was subsequently promoted to banquets and events manager and assistant general manager, and in May 2018, was elevated to general manager.

He’s been away from FGCU for 11 years, but when he returns, he feels like he has slipped on a comfortable pair of shoes.

“It’s amazing to me that when I walk into FGCU’s RHM building, some of the faculty that I had while going to school still recognize me and remember my name,” he says. “Just shows you the relationships the faculty and advisors build with their students.”

His advice for today’s students?

“Pay attention in all of your RHM classes,” he says. “They are handing you the tools that you need to be successful right out of college. The RHM staff and directors are always searching for information from those in the day-to-day business of hospitality so that they can pass on relevant information that will benefit the students.”
