Accreditation Commission for Programs In Hospitality Administration (ACPHA)

ACPHA is a private, nonprofit body that is comprised of hospitality, tourism and business professionals from across the country. Its composition ensures that the Commission is completely independent and impartial. The main responsibility of the Commission is to conduct the accreditation hearings to verify that those agencies applying for accreditation comply with the applicable standards.

ACPHA standards set a national benchmark for the effective instruction of programs throughout the United States and are necessary to ensure that these programs are professionally administered. They address curriculum, resources and staffing essential to good program, including administrative and fiscal controls, staff development, facilities, library, and other areas of concern. Standards reflect practical, up-to-date policies and practices that ensure the strength of the program.

Program Progression and Additional Graduation Requirements
Degree-seeking students are classified as pre-majors prior to formal transition into a LCOB major. As pre-majors, students may enroll in lower level (1000-2999) courses to satisfy general education and common prerequisite requirements; lower level electives; and business common core courses, except GEB 4890, if course prerequisites are met. Pre-majors may not enroll in upper level (3000-4999) courses for the major.

Transition from a LCOB pre-major to a major happens following (a) completion of all common prerequisites with a minimum grade of C or higher in each course; and (b) completion of 50 earned hours of courses with a minimum FGCU GPA of 2.0.

For timely degree completion, FTIC (First Time in College) students are expected to complete the following:
- MAC 1105 with a minimum grade of B (or relevant accelerated credit or placement exam), ECO 2023 or ECO 2013 with minimum grade of C, one additional common prerequisite, and an overall 2.4 FGCU GPA within one calendar year from admission.
- Four common prerequisites by the end of the third semester (excluding summer) from admission
- Seven common prerequisites and an overall 2.7 FGCU GPA by the end of the fourth semester (excluding summer) from admission
- FIN 3403 with minimum grade of C by the end of the sixth semester (excluding summer) from admission
For timely degree completion, transfer students are expected to complete the following:
- Seven common prerequisites and an overall 2.7 FGCU GPA by the end of the third semester (excluding summer) from admission
- FIN 3403 with minimum grade of C by the end of the fifth semester (excluding summer) from admission

In addition to the program requirements, students must:
- Successfully complete 500 hours of internship (HFT 4945).
- Students selecting a concentration must focus the internship within the concentration area.
- Complete HFT 1000 Intro to Hospitality/Tourism, 30 credits, and 500 hours of hospitality industry experience prior to enrolling in HFT 4945 Internship Experience. Experiences must be approved by the internship coordinator and documented.
- HFT 4945 Internship Experience requires a minimum of 500 hours of work with an employer (pre-approval by internship coordinator required).
- Complete a minimum of 120 credits with at least 48 hours at the upper division (3000-4999 level).
- Complete the last 30 credits of business courses at FGCU.
- Earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 for all coursework attempted at FGCU.
- Satisfy college-level skills and foreign language entrance requirements.

- Complete the standardized business knowledge assessment exam administered during the last semester in GEB 4890 Business Strategy.

By spring 2022, graduates of FGCU’s School of Resort & Hospitality Management will enter the workforce with added assets they can apply in a wider range of career paths, thanks to the school’s move to the Lutgert College of Business. As the hospitality degree program transitions into a business degree at the end of the fall semester, students will take additional required courses in economics, finance, accounting, supply-chain management and other subjects that prepare them to excel in business settings besides hospitality. With new concentrations offered for the bachelor’s in resort and hospitality administration, undergraduates still will have the opportunity to gain specialized knowledge in one of four areas of concentration.

Chef Fraser Instructs Students in Culture, Food, and Spirits

As the RHM program has transformed into a reinvigorated curriculum in Resort & Hospitality Administration (RHA), Lutgert’s popular chef has added a new course to his personal menu: HFT 4894C Culture, Food and Spirits.

On March 11, 2021, the School of Resort and Hospitality Management (SRHM) in the Lutgert College of Business received official renewal of its accredited status with the Accreditation Commission for Programs of Hospitality Administration (ACPHA).
